Does Google Search Console show AI visibility?

No — Google Search Console cannot show your AI visibility, and it's a structural limitation, not a settings problem. Search Console reports on one surface only: your site's performance inside Google's own organic web search results. It tells you impressions, average position, clicks, and indexing status for the ranked list of links on google.com. That's genuinely useful for what it is — but it's blind to third-party AI assistants by design.

Why the blind spot exists

When a buyer opens ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity and asks "best [category] for [use case]," that conversation happens on a completely separate platform that Google doesn't operate and can't report on. There's no impression logged in your Search Console, no click recorded, no position tracked — because the interaction never touched Google's search results. Even Google's own AI Overviews (which Search Console has started to surface partial data for) are only Google's panel, not the answers ChatGPT or Perplexity generate.

What this means in practice

You can be ranking #1 in Search Console for a query and completely absent from every AI assistant's answer to the same question — and Search Console will never hint at it. The tools are answering different questions: Search Console answers "how am I doing in Google's link results," while AI visibility answers "do AI assistants name me in their answers."

What actually shows AI visibility

The only way to see it is to ask the assistants directly — put your buyer questions to each engine and record whether you're named. That's a fundamentally different measurement than anything Search Console was built to provide, which is exactly why AI visibility monitoring exists as its own category.
