How to choose GEO content generation software
AI content writers can publish fast — but speed doesn't guarantee a citation. Here's the checklist to run before you commit to one.
What our own tracked corpus shows AI engines actually cite
Across every real (non-mock) scan in PingMyBrand's own store, here's the breakdown of source-page categories AI engines cited when answering — the real evidence behind the structure advice below, not a guess.
Full methodology + live numbers: The State of AI Citations report.
Step 1
Ask whether it generates content or verifies it
Most tools marketed as "GEO content generation software" optimize for output volume — drafts, outlines, calendars. Very few close the loop by checking whether the published page actually gets cited once it's live. Ask the vendor directly: does the tool re-probe ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity after publish, or does it stop at "published"?
Step 2
Ask for one real, published, cited example — not a feature list
A content-generation vendor's best proof isn't a claim in their pricing page — it's a specific query on a specific engine where a page it wrote is actually named in the answer today. If they can't produce one, treat the citation-rate pitch as unproven.
Step 3
Run a sample output through a citability check first
Take one generated draft and apply this cluster's own audit: does it open with a standalone, self-contained answer, or three paragraphs of throat-clearing? Does every number in it carry a real source? Fluent prose is not the same thing as a citable page.
Step 4
Decide up front whether a human reviews before publish
A tool that auto-publishes with no review trades speed for accuracy risk — a factually wrong AI-written page an engine later cites is worse than no page at all. Confirm whether the tool supports (or requires) a citation-readiness pass before anything goes live, not after.
Step 5
Price the seat against what it actually replaces
A content-generation subscription competes with a freelance writer's day rate, not with a tracking tool's subscription — price it against the right alternative, and check separately whether citation tracking (did the pages you generated actually get cited?) is bundled in or sold as a second product entirely.
PingMyBrand, an AI search visibility tracker, generates fix content the same way its writer-tool peers do — but every piece is scoped to a gap our own scan already found in your real citation data, and the same account that generates it can re-probe the engines afterward to confirm it actually worked.
