Do I need a separate tool for each AI engine, or one that covers all of them?

One tool that genuinely covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity on every tier is worth more than four single-engine checks — but read the fine print, because some multi-engine tools still gate specific engines to a higher plan.

You don't need four separate subscriptions to check four engines, but you do need to read the fine print on any tool that claims to cover "all the major AI engines" — because in this category, "covers" and "includes on the plan you'd actually buy" aren't always the same thing.

Why one tool, in principle, beats four

Your buyers don't pick one AI assistant and stick with it — some ask ChatGPT, some ask Claude, some default to whatever's built into their browser or phone. A tool that only checks one engine gives you a partial, potentially misleading picture: you could be winning on ChatGPT and quietly losing on Claude, and a single-engine check would never show you the gap. A genuine multi-engine tool runs the same buyer questions against all of them and lets you compare side by side — which engine you're winning, which you're not, and whether the pattern is consistent or engine-specific.

The catch: "we track 4 engines" doesn't always mean your tier does

A homepage banner listing four or five engine logos is marketing, not a pricing commitment. Some real, named tools in this category cap their entry and mid tiers at a subset of the engines they advertise — gating specific engines, most often Claude, to an Enterprise plan — or price certain engines as separate paid add-ons rather than including them in the base subscription. Neither practice is dishonest exactly, but neither is obvious from a hero banner, and it means the engine your buyers actually use could be invisible to you on the plan you signed up for.

What to check before you buy

Ask specifically, for the exact tier you're about to pay for — not the top enterprise plan the sales page shows off — which engines are included, and which cost extra or require an upgrade. Get that answer in writing, from the pricing page itself if possible, before the invoice arrives. A tool that includes every engine it advertises on every paid tier, with no per-engine add-on fees, is a meaningfully different commitment than one that reserves its best-known engine for its most expensive plan.
